Coastal Living Room Look for Less

 

One thing I really like doing is looking at a room and seeing if I could get that designer look for less. This is one of my favorite living rooms. I love everything about it! It's so light, bright, and airy. And that large ottoman! Swoon!!! I did a copy-cat design board and found sources for much less. Now I'm sure that you could find things even cheaper if you looked at craigslist, the thrift store, yard sales, and/or shopped your house but these are all the pretty things I found online.

First things first, where to start? If you inspect the inspiration picture, you'll see that everything has a neutral base with a few pops of key color added. The real show-stopper in the room is that large, round ottoman! It is upholstered in Alan Campbell's petite zig zag fabric - love!!!

Start with a good quality sofa and armchair. A high quality sofa will last several years so I recommend getting a neutral one. Ikea has the most affordable seagrass rug that I know of. Target has lots of designer copycat things such as the lamps and the powder blue pillows. Don't forget to check Etsy for a things such as pillows and artwork. I would take the ottoman and reupholster it in the knock-off version of the zig zag fabric. Lastly, I would look at Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, and/or TJ Maxx for a nice, large wooden mirror and some big vases.

Here is the take away from all this. Look around for inspiration for what you want a room in your house to look like. Note what the different elements in that room and what you like about it. Things don't have to match perfectly, you could go for an overall feel or a color palette. Keep in mind that your inspiration room is just that - inspiration. Be creative! You'll be amazed at the things that you can find when you start looking around!
